How much Wood could a Wood Chuck Chuck???
Did you know there are various types of fire wood for your homes fireplace that each have very unique burning characteristics?
Hardwoods like birch, oak & hard maple are the best choices for burning a long lasting hot fire. Most preferred out of the 3 is Well seasoned oak. Well seasoned being a year or more of sitting in a dry area after being cut to size. This ensures it’s thoroughly dried out and ready to warm your toesies!
Softer woods such as pine and fir are more readily available and a bit more cost effective as well as do not need as much time to season, but when you are hearing that recurring “popping” and sparking in your fire that is increasing your Creosote build-up much quicker than when using more hardwoods. Theses types also do not produce as hot or long lasting heat as a hardwood does!
Which ever wood you choose, It is recommended to buy your wood this year that you are going to burn next season to ensure for yourself it is properly seasoned.
It is also recommended to have your fireplace as well as chimney inspected annually to ensure it is safe to use as well as weather and animal proof !
